If you like Vinyl Toys or have thought about starting a collection this is a must have! (FYI, The all black colorway is limited to 100 pieces and I know he has sold a bunch of them already!)

A little more info on these:

Don’t be a hero… Among Villains has a mission and great T-shirt Designs too. Check out there shop to get the discount!
A little more about Among Villains:
Among Villains is a project over one year in the making that is detail oriented and message driven. Deriving much of my influence from the punk and hip-hop scenes, I found a common ground with the strong political messages within their music and lyrics that would typically be deemed offensive or wrong, but made perfect sense to me. “Advocate villainy, abrogate virtue” is the tagline of my company, and it carries an omnipresent dark sarcasm throughout my line with it that I feel is vital to the image of the brand. Most people in society that are slapped with the “bad guy” label are usually just the opposite, and vice versa, so what that phrase is really saying is to do what YOU feel is right, not what the law says is right. I find so much to be wrong with the justice system in general, and the officers sworn to uphold it, whom are protecting and serving no one but their own self interests. Isn’t it wrong when our safety net makes us feel unsafe? Among Villains is my personal answer back to all of the corrupt law enforcement officials, the lying politicians, the greedy big businesses of the world, and anyone who supports their ways. Every product from this line has a bold message with an unmistakable meaning, so if you feel the same way about what’s going on in the world as I do, I invite you join in and wear an Among Villains product proudly. The truth of the matter is, “people should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people”
- take a stand for something. Among Villains

Troy White Interview from 2009

Written by . Filed under Interviews. Tagged , , . No comments.

Hellllllllo BNIers, I dug this interview out of the Archives of our previous site.
Troy White is one of the top designers in Action Sports these days. Since this interview he has relocated to (my hometown) Portland, Oregon and does kick ass work for that large shoe company that starts with the letter “N” I caught up with Twhite a few months ago and it sounds like he is really pushing some boundaries over there with art and design. Anyways, here is the interview, enjoy!

Hey Troy, tell us a little about who you are, and what you do.
I am a graphic designer born in Arizona, Lived in Seattle and now relocated to Fort Lauderdale. Typography and illustration is my thing. Growing up on a
board nothing makes me happier than having the opportunity to work with the companies I would have never in a million years thought I would be.

How did you end up getting in to Graphic Design?
Always an been into arts. I told my high school teacher that I was planning to be an art teacher too. She told me I would make a horrible teacher and that kinda stuck with me. I feel into the design thing when I was in college. I just never knew I would be doing this kind of design then.

There is a lot of competition in the Action Sports and Apparel market. What do you put into your work that seems to resonate with these companies, and does it just come natural to you to do this type of work?
I am very passionate about what I do and I think that shows in my work. Seeing myself as a graphic designer and not necessarily as an illustrator has allowed me to be more flexible in my approach to solving visual problems. I am able to take direction and blend in with the look that an art director wants for the piece or season.

Are there any artists out there whose work you are a fan of? Do you have any of their pieces in your personal collection?
Aaron Horkey, Kelsey Brookes, Shepard Fairy, Eric Adorn, Jim Phillips, Rick Griffen, Andy Howell, Wes Humpton, Jeff Staple, Joshua Smith, Pushead, Sean Cliver, Craig Metzger, Steve Caranza, Matt Alvarez-  Ok the list could go on and on. Yes – I own a few pieces from some of these artists.

Do you have time to do personal work, and if so what can we expect from Twhite in the future?
Not as much as I would like. Expect? well I hope to have some sort of line together by 2010.

Lastly, do you have any advice for the next generation of designers coming up?
Work hard.. do whatever it is you like doing.
